OLYMPIC STUDIES AROUND THE GLOBE
DATE SET FOR 14TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM FOR OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC RESEARCH
The 14th International Symposium for Olympic and Paralympic Research will be hosted by the International Centre for Olympic Studies (ICOS) on the campus of Western University, London, Canada, on the weekend of 12-14 October 2018.
Scholars, researchers, students and professionals interested in the sociocultural study of the modern Olympic or Paralympic Games are invited to submit abstracts for conference presentations. Papers in the areas of history, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, political science, cultural studies and sports management, as well as other disciplines that contribute to our cultural understanding of the Games, are particularly encouraged. The deadline for the call for abstracts is 15 June.

DIAGORAS CALLS FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
The editors of the e-journal Diagoras International Academic Journal on Olympic Studies are currently welcoming uninvited manuscript submissions for their next issue, and would be happy to receive them via diagorasjournal@gmail.com by 31 May 2018.
The first issue of Diagoras, published online on 31 October 2017, enjoyed a global spread, with manuscripts from all five continents. Editors Ian Culpan, Emilio Fernandez and Stephan Wassong were delighted with the positive feedback they received and now plan to publish the second issue by 31 October 2018. Twelve scholars have currently been invited to contribute.
FC BARCELONA AND THE UAB LAUNCH NEW MASTER’S DEGREE
FC Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona have recently launched an alliance to create the Sport Communication Lab (LabComSport) – a platform for research, training and dissemination on sports and communication. The first output of this agreement is the launch of a Master’s Degree in Communication and Sponsorship Management in Sports Organisations, which will start in October 2018 and will be taught initially in Spanish. The UAB Olympic and Sport Studies Centre (CEO-UAB) will manage both initiatives.

APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR RIOU’S MASTER OF SPORTS ADMINISTRATION COURSE
The Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) has now opened applications for the 2018-2019 intake of its Master of Sports Administration (MSA) course. The deadline for submitting applications is the end of August 2018.
Based in Sochi, host city of the Olympic Winter Games 2014, the one-year full-time programme – which has previously attracted close to 200 students from nearly 50 countries – targets individuals who already have experience of working within the Olympic Movement and the wider sports industry.
The aim of the course is to equip students with the cutting-edge strategic and operational management skills needed for managing sports organisations, events and venues in the socio-economic climate of today. With a curriculum designed by distinguished Russian and international sports management experts, there is a strong focus on the operational components required to stage technically excellent Olympic Games.

A NEW INTAKE OF THE M.A. IN OLYMPIC STUDIES LAUNCHED
The sixth intake of the M.A. in Olympic Studies began in February 2018. The programme has been organised since 2010 by the OSC of the German Sports University Cologne (GSU), and is held in cooperation with the OSC of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), the OSC of Loughborough University (Great Britain), the University of Kaiserslautern (Germany) and University of Kiel (Germany).
In recent years, the M.A. has continually developed, which is also a result of the support of the IOC, Olympic Solidarity and the fruitful collaboration with the IOC Olympic Studies Centre. For the sixth intake, the Programme Management selected a total of 27 participants from all five continents.
