NEW PAGE ON COUBERTIN’S WRITINGS

Like so many men of his generation and status, Pierre de Coubertin wrote extensively throughout his life. His writings amount to around 16,000 printed pages, including 34 books, 57 pamphlets and 1,224 articles.

We have published a new page on the Olympic World Library dedicated to his writings, where you will find over 220 (soon 300) of his books and articles on the values of Olympism, the revival of the Olympic Games and the development of sports organisations. These written resources are fully accessible in digital format thanks to the help of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee.

NEW ON THE SHELF: ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES

In July 2023, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) published two guides designed to help organisers of cultural, sporting and commercial events to monitor, measure and evaluate the social, economic and environmental benefits of their events.

Two recent studies on the economic impact of the Olympic Games have been published, both taking the OECD recommendations into consideration:

The Sports Law and Economics Centre of the University of Limoges has published the Ex-ante economic impact study of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This evaluates the economic impact of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games on Île-de-France. It uses updated data and follows guidelines from the French Ministry of Sport and the OECD. Covering 2018 to 2034, it includes the preparation, staging and legacy phases, spanning 17 years.
The International Academy of Sport Science and Technology (AISTS) has produced a white paper (Economic Impact Assessment of Olympic Games) to examine how the methodology recommended by the OECD could be adapted to the specific case of the Olympic and Paralympic Games with a cautious approach, conservative assumptions and full transparency of the model.
