NEW LIST OF ACADEMIC OLYMPIC STUDIES AND RESEARCH CENTRES IN THE WORLD
Over the last few decades, the number of academic Olympic Studies and Research Centres (OSCs),
which aim to promote teaching, research, publications and conferences about the Olympic Movement
and the Olympic Games, has substantially increased.
After the publication in 2020 of new “Guidelines for the Academic Olympic Studies and Research Centres”
and a subsequent individual review procedure, we are pleased to publish a new list of compliant
academic OSCs. In doing so, we wish to highlight the important role of the
academic OSCs in creating and fostering interest and knowledge about the Olympic Movement among
the university community, and to facilitate exchanges and collaboration between researchers,
professors and students who share a common interest in Olympic studies.
This list will be updated regularly as the process for certain centres remains ongoing and new
centres are created. Academic representatives interested in creating an academic OSC are
invited to write to studies.centre@olympic.org.
The list of academic OSCs is published on our homepage under the
section “Olympic studies around the world”.

2021 PHD STUDENTS AND EARLY CAREER ACADEMICS RESEARCH GRANTS AWARDED
The Olympic Studies Centre, with the support of its Grant Selection Committee, has awarded six
projects with a research grant for the 2021 edition of the PhD Students and Early Career
Academics Research Grant Programme. You can consult the list of grants awarded here. The research results are expected by the end of
2021.
We take this opportunity to sincerely thank all the candidates for their interest in conducting
Olympic-related research, as well as the members of our Research Grant Selection Committee for
their continuous support.
The 2022 edition of this research grant programme will be launched in April 2021. The rules and
the application form will be available here.

We remind you that the Olympic
World Library gives you access to our collection of over 36,000 titles, 10,500 of
which are in digital format, and that you can sign up to receive automatic weekly e-mail alerts
about our new releases.

NEW CALENDAR OF OLYMPIC-RELATED CONFERENCES
To give more prominence to our list of conferences and online seminars organised by universities
or institutions involved in the Olympic Movement, you can now access an interactive
calendar in which you will find the events list, including the location, the date
and a link to obtain more information.

OLYMPIC AGENDA 2020+5
The Executive Board of the IOC has proposed a new strategic roadmap, Olympic Agenda 2020+5, that
will guide the work of the IOC and the Olympic Movement for the next five years.
By putting forward 15 recommendations, its intention is to secure greater solidarity, further
digitalisation, increased sustainability, strengthened credibility and a reinforced focus on the
role of sport in society.
The recommendations are based on key trends that have been identified as likely to be decisive
in the post-coronavirus world. They are also areas where sport and the values of Olympism can
play a key role in turning challenges into opportunities.

IOC GENDER EQUALITY SEMINAR SERIES
Since 2015, the IOC and the International Federations have participated in an annual forum with a
view to closing the gender gap on and off the field of play. With the
5th IF Gender Equality Forum cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a series of
six online sessions was organised.
By sharing examples of concrete initiatives, the series aims to encourage and support IFs in
embracing change and implementing action plans to address gender equality in sport. The
online sessions covered the following topics: leadership (governance, coaches and technical
officials), safeguarding, and removing gender bias from all aspects of portrayal.
