PHD STUDENTS RESEARCH AND EARLY CAREER ACADEMICS GRANT PROGRAMME 2021 EDITION

We have launched the 2021 edition of the research grant programme for PhD research students and early career academics which aims to encourage research with a humanities or social sciences perspective on any aspect dealing with the Olympic Movement and/or the Olympic Games. The application form and the rules, including all the information concerning the eligibility criteria, the application procedure and the grant awards are available below. The deadline for submission is 25 September 2020.

AISTS SEMINAR ON THE POSTPONMENT OF TOKYO 2020

On 28 May, Christophe Dubi, IOC Olympic Games Executive Director, was online with the International Academy of Sports Science and Technology (AISTS) for a live virtual discussion regarding the postponement of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The session provided a unique opportunity to hear about the process behind the decision to postpone the Games and the work being done by the IOC, the Organising Committee and the entire Olympic Community to reorganise them next year.

TOKYO 2020 AND BEIJING 2022 SUSTAINABILITY REPORTS

Find in our Olympic World Library ZOOM IN page on "Olympic Games Legacy and Sustainability" the two latest publications concerning sustainability produced by the Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 Organising Committees. The first one is the Tokyo 2020 Second Sustainability Pre-Games Report, showing details of how it plans to deliver sustainable Olympic and Paralympic Games and highlighting the progress made on some of the initiatives undertaken through 2019. The second one is the Beijing 2022 Official Sustainability Plan, which has been produced according to three key themes: “positive environmental impact”, “new development for the region” and “better life for the people”.

THE IOC STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH ALL ATHLETES AND ALL SPORTS

“The Olympic revenue-sharing model ensures that all Olympic sports and all Olympic teams, from all countries, can benefit. That is why we call it the solidarity model and will continue to advocate for it.” Lana Haddad, IOC Chief Operating Officer, explains this model and responds to some of the comments regarding the IOC and its missions.

AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY OF MADRID INITIATIVE “COMITÉ JUEGO LIMPIO”

The Olympic Studies Centre of the Autonomous University of Madrid in collaboration with the Spanish Olympic Academy have launched an initiative called "Comité Juego Limpio" (Fair Play Committee) with the aim of promoting activites and athletes who embody "Fair Play".
